‘The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums’ is Shared By The Mountain Goats

The Mountain Goats have released a new album, Dark in Here, and also shared a song from it, “The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums,” on Tuesday.

Dark in Here, which was recorded at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, will be quieter than its “sibling” album, Getting Into Knives, which was recorded in Memphis and released last October. Lead singer and songwriter John Darnielle penned the autobiographical “The Slow Parts on Death Metal Albums” about his experiences going to metal shows at Fender’s Ballroom in Long Beach, California, in the late 1980s, according to Mountain Goats bassist Peter Hughes. Susan Marshall and Reba Russell, who have previously collaborated with Rev. Al Green, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and U2, provide backing vocals on the track.

On June 25th, Dark in Here will be released, and it will include the previously unveiled single “Mobile.” Along with Getting Into Knives, the Mountain Goats released the impromptu Songs for Pierre Chuvin last year, which Darnielle wrote and recorded in ten days and unveiled to support the Mountain Goats and their touring crew make up some of the money they lost when their tour was cancelled due to Covid-19.

This summer the band plans to hit the road , starting  their tour on August 6th in Asheville, North Carolina, and continuing through September 26th in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
