Okkervil River’s ‘In a Light’ is Their First New Song in Three Years

Okkervil River has released a new single titled “In a Light,” which is the band’s first new music since 2018.

“In a Light” is a sprawling country-rock song with organ, piano, pedal steel, rich harmonies, and intertwined guitar lines that sometimes carry the song into more expansive realms and lead to an exuberant closing jam. Will Sheff, the band’s frontman, said in a statement that he wrote “In a Light” with guitarist Will Graefe, and that Okkervil River recorded it around the time they were working on their 2018 album, In the Rainbow Rain, but that it didn’t quite match.

Okkervil River also had a new song, “It Hasn’t Happened Yet,” which will be unveiled on Friday, May 14th.

Sheff also revealed that he’ll be co-headlining a solo Okkervil River tour with Damien Jurado this fall, in addition to releasing “In a Light.” A run on the East Coast will begin on September 21st in Evanston, Illinois, and conclude on October 7th in Holyoke, Massachusetts; a run on the West Coast will begin on December 1st in Santa Ana, California, and conclude on December 11th in Bellingham, Washington.
