GROUPER ANNOUNCED ‘SHADE,’ HER TWELFTH ALBUM DETAILS

‘Shade,’ Grouper’s first full-length album details in three years, was unveiled this week.

‘Shade,’ which will be released on October 22 through Kranky, is a mix of nine tracks written over the past 15 years.

Thematically, ‘Shade’ will be about the shore, both literally and metaphorically, and the solace we might find there. It’s a study of how place shapes a person, how we frame ourselves through our surroundings, and how esoteric factors like memory and experiences help us create our own psychogeographies.

The album’s lead single, “Unclean mind,” was delivered this week by Grouper, a pseudonym for Liz Harris, and has layered vocals, close harmonies, and intimate guitar. It’s everything we’ve grown to love and expect from a Grouper track: stripped back and introspective.
