Pie Radio, one of the UK’s top youth-led stations with a listenership of over 400,000, has announced a new Kings of Amapiano event on Friday, August 20th, with Major League DJz headlining the bill.
The event will take place at Bowlers, a popular rave venue in the area, and will be hosted by the Indulge Group.Artist Lebo, Maniac017, Mixrmoe, JesseTheDJ, DJ Fistoz, and JoeShamzz will support the major acts with sets, while KemoyB and Energy Gawd ‘ShopsyDoo’ will host the event. Tickets have already gone on sale for the second time.
It’s the city’s second celebration of the emerging South African house music style, following last month’s ‘Amapiano v Afrobeat’ concert, which was originally scheduled for June but was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic but took place last month.
In late July, UK digital radio station NTS produced a new compilation titled ‘Amapiano Now,’ which is just another indication of how much attention is being paid to the sound right now. DJ Mag’s music columns in April focused on the scene in particular.
