Lizzo has been hinting at the beginning of a new era, revealing that her first single since 2019 will include Cardi B and will be released on Friday.
Lizzo made the announcement with a video of her making a FaceTime call on Instagram. When the phone was answered, it was a sleepy Cardi B who had modified the caller ID to read “‘RUMORS’ Feat.” “It’s Harry Styles,” Lizzo said towards the end, responding to the constant pleas from fans of both artists for them to collaborate. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a little longer for that.
“Rumors” is Lizzo’s first new single since her third album, Cuz I Love You, was released in 2019. Since last year, she’s been announcing new songs via Instagram Lives from her at-home studio, where she was working during the pandemic. She recently disclosed that she has been collaborating with Mark Ronson, a producer.
She’s been teasing “Rumors” on TikTok by comically exposing numerous rumours about her. She debuted a preview of the new song in a lighthearted video “confirming” that she and Chris Evans are expecting a child.
