Even though it isn’t quite fall yet, Phoebe Bridgers’ new cover of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” is haunting.
Bridgers begins the performance with a twinkle of piano before launching into her distinctive thick voice. The Metallica Blacklist, a planned tribute album to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the band’s 1991 self-titled LP (known as The Black Album), features her cover of “Nothing Else Matters”.
The huge tribute album includes 53 distinct Metallica covers, with proceeds going to 52 different charities. Bridgers is one of many artists who have covered “Nothing Else Matters,” including Miley Cyrus, Darius Rucker, Chris Stapleton, My Morning Jacket, and others. St. Vincent’s cover of “Sad But True,” Mac DeMarco’s “Enter Sandman,” and others are among the other tracks on the album.
A deluxe reissue of The Black Album, which includes 14 CDs, six vinyl LPs, and six CDs, will be released alongside the tribute covers album. On September 10th, both parts will be delivered.
