On Monday, Lilyisthatyou unveiled the video for her streaming smash “F.M.R.N.” The singer stares into the camera in the vibrant video, created by Qran Zhu, as she delivers her single’s romantic invitation.
Although some videos utilizing the piece of music were briefly removed from TikTok for breaking the platform’s community guidelines, the chorus grew famous on the platform before the song was even released. Since its official release in July, “F.M.R.N.” has received over 13 million Spotify streams.
Lilyisthatyou began creating songs at the age of 13, recording them using a microphone she received as a gift from her father, a former television shows’ composer in Toronto.
She launched her first track last November and focused on honing her songwriting talents after meeting with her manager, Marvin Alyas. She’d scribble lyrics in her head while listening to SoundCloud playlists of lo-fi sounds, then go into remote sessions and graft those phrases onto other musical frameworks: pop, hip-hop, and dance music.
“F.M.R.N.” was recorded in a Toronto studio earlier this year, and Lilyisthatyou collaborated with her boyfriend Caleb Jacob, who also produced the music.
“F.M.R.N.’s” purpose, according to Lilyisthatyou, is to “make girls happy and comfortable in their own skin.”
