During Guns N’ Roses’ Saturday concert at the BottleRock festival in Napa Valley, California, surprise guest Dave Grohl performed “Paradise City.” However, due to a stringent curfew, the all-star collaboration was called off midway through the performance.
Grohl, who lent Axl Rose his throne years ago and earlier performed “Paradise City” with the band in Tulsa in 2017, made a surprise visit for the Appetite for Destruction classic, Guns N’ Roses’ last track of their headlining set.
Organizers cut power to the stage as soon as the song went past the 10 p.m. curfew, and after the second chorus. The band went on without amplification for the duration of the song, with the crowd singing along with Rose when they weren’t condemning the organizers.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, headlining shows by Neil Young and the Cure have previously been cut off mid-song due to BottleRock’s 10 p.m. curfew, which was established in 2013 to placate the festival’s Napa neighbors. The Foo Fighters, who defied BottleRock’s curfew in 2017, will try to avoid a repeat performance on Sunday.
