Tim Sweeney has revived his long-running Beats In Space radio show on Apple Music 1, which is a new home for him.
Sweeney announced the show’s termination in March this year, after airing 1,000 broadcasts on New York’s WNYU radio station over the course of 21 years. Now that it’s back, it’ll be available for free on Apple’s radio station, with archival mixes available only to Apple Music subscribers.
Sweeney’s Beats In Space will now be recorded and broadcast at Apple Music’s studios in Manhattan, rather than at WNYU’s basement studios. He also added that the new collaboration will allow him to broadcast future episodes of the show from Apple Music’s other global studios, as well as collaborate with a number of musicians.
Sweeney and the show’s guest DJs will be compensated, while the artists whose music is featured in the show’s mixes will be paid through Apple Music’s streaming subscription service.
Sweeney has stated that he will have complete discretion over who he invites to the show, with each edition featuring an hour mix from him and another hour from a guest DJ. He was joined by Planningtorock for the first edition, which aired at 10 p.m. ET on Monday, November 1st.
