The special will feature a new Christmas song, “Fall in Love at Christmas,” written by Carey and featuring Khalid and Kirk Franklin. That song will be released on Friday. Carey also co-executive produced the special with Joseph Kahn, who directed it.
Early Monday, the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas announced the special with a video depicting her smashing a slew of Jack-O-Lanterns with a candy cane bat while reading “It’s Not Time.” Carey’s enormously famous “All I Want for Christmas Is You” reached the charts in November and stayed there until the year’s end, so the video looked to be an allusion to the fact that Christmas creep has been approaching earlier and earlier every year.
Carey has been banging the drum for the holidays for the past few years, largely for her 1994 iconic song, and it appears that she had some new material this year.
