On The Late Show, David Byrne sang “I Zimbra” with the cast of his Broadway stage musical American Utopia.
Before performing the varied musical act, which included a myriad of percussion instruments, the musician, dressed in costume, gave a spoken-word introduction.
Byrne spoke with host Stephen Colbert on the successful musical and the cast recording of American Utopia, which was recently released. Byrne also took advantage of the chance to show Colbert some dance moves.
After a sold-out run in 2019-2020, American Utopia has returned to Broadway. The musical was also adapted into a film by filmmaker Spike Lee, which premiered on HBO.
For Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians feature, Byrne recently joined Lorde for a talk. The singer commented on how his approach to music has evolved through time during the chat.
