Missy Elliot got her star at the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The famous rapper was honored with the star yesterday, 9th November. She gave an acceptance speech where she acknowledged her “sisters in hip hop”, consisting of “the ones that’s popping now, the ones that’s about to be popping.” She also mentioned her “godmothers” in the likes of Queen Latifah, Yo-Yo, MC Lyte, Salt-N-Pepa, Angie Stone, and Roxanne Shanté.
Elliot first gave thanks to the Almighty and then mentioned her mother and other friends who had inspired her pointing out that they had been her foundation.
On the attendance sheet were the bold names of Lizzo, Ciara, and Mona Scott-Young: Missy Elliot’s manager. They all gave their speeches concerning Missy Elliot’s impact on their career.
Ciara in her speech spoke about how Missy Elliot led the way for her and other artists. She continued on how innovative, strong, and genuine Missy Elliot is such that her creation of a modern hitmaker still astonishes all.
Missy Elliott was included in the book ‘The Motherlode’ earlier this year, along with a number of other pioneering women in hip hop.
