San Holo has released a cover of Alice Deejay’s 1999 trance chart hit “Better Off Alone.”
The new version takes the lyrics that made the song popular — first sung by Judith Pronk — and sets them to a mournful guitar solo based on the original bleeped harmony. It was originally an instrumental tune composed in 1997 by Sebastiaan Moljin and Eelke Kalberg (Dash Berlin).
It’s the second time Holo has reimagined iconic dance tunes during the pandemic, after releasing a rendition of Flux Pavilion’s ‘I Can’t Stop’ last October to commemorate the tune’s tenth anniversary.
‘Better Off Alone’ is one of several 1990s trance tracks that have recently been given fresh life. Charlotte de Witte and Enrico Sanguiliano announced a new version of Age of Love’s ‘Age of Love’ last week, while Paul van Dyk debuted his remix of Energy 52’s seminal Ibiza anthem, ‘Cafe del Mar.’
