David Gilmour and Roger Waters have finally agreed on a release plan for a deluxe edition of Pink Floyd’s 1977 masterpiece Animals, after years of quiet dispute. Waters said in a statement on his website and Instagram page that the album will have new stereo and 5.1 mixes, but no exact release date has been set.
The news arrives at a particularly tense time in Waters’ and Gilmour’s relationship. Access to the Pink Floyd official website and social media accounts is one of their major issues of dispute. Waters alleges that he has been barred from posting on them, and as a result, he is unable to directly promote his tours and other projects to his followers.
Because of their disagreement over the liner notes, the Animals collection was also delayed as a result of the quarrel.
Waters was slated to be on the road with his This Is Not a Drill tour for the previous year, but the pandemic forced him to postpone the dates until 2022. Waters recently disclosed that he began writing a memoir during the downtime.
One of his motives is to correct the historical record, which he believes Gilmour has distorted. On his website, he refers to a 1982 interview with David Fricke in which the guitarist discusses the creation of the tape loop on the song “Money,” which he quotes extensively.
On June 6th, 2022, Roger Waters will kick off his tour at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh. And anyone hoping to see David Gilmour make an appearance at one of the gigs would most likely be disappointed. They’ve been at odds for the past 50 years, and their relationship appears to have reached yet another low point.
