Beach Boys Released “Surf’s Up (A Cappella)” And “This Whole World (Alternate Ending)”

The Beach Boys released a cappella rendition of the title tune from Surf’s Up ahead of the release of their mammoth box set of 1970’s Sunflower and 1971’s Surf’s Up.

The Beach Boys also debuted a new version of “This Whole World” from Sunflower, which was created specifically for the box set. Brian appears on the bridge while Carl Wilson takes the lead, as he did in the original.

The alternate conclusion to “This Whole World” (below) was deleted for an Eastern Airlines commercial they starred in, which was set in Southern California and had Orson Welles as the narrator. Snippets of the commercial can be viewed on YouTube, but it has yet to be released in its entirety.

“Big Sur” and a live rendition of “Susie Cincinnati” are followed by “Surf’s Up (A Cappella)” and “This Whole World (Alternate Ending).” On August 27th, Feel
Flows – The Sunflower & Surf’s Up Sessions 1969-1971 will be released. Read Rob Sheffield’s unique guide to the box set to get ready for the release.
