Beyoncé dropped her new single, “Break My Soul,” at midnight Eastern Time. She made the statement by modifying the bios on her social media profiles to say, “6. BREAK MY SOUL at midnight ET.” It will be the first single from her forthcoming album Renaissance, due out on July 29.
According to Pitchfork, the release of “Break My Soul” on the summer solstice signifies the beginning of a new season. The new single is a dance track intended to usher in a new era of anthems.
“Break My Soul” is the latest release, roughly two years after Beyoncé’s track “Black Parade,” which she shared in honor of Juneteenth on June 19, 2020. In addition to being featured on The Lion King: The Gift (Deluxe Edition), the song earned her the 2021 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance. Beyoncé is now the female artist with the most Grammys in Grammy history.
