Bootsy Collins has released a new music video for “Slide Eazy,” a collaborative track with Ellis Hall, Rod Castro, and Brennan Johns from The Power of One, his most recent album.
The video is an eye-popping kaleidoscopic collage that sees Bootsy and his collaborators breezing through the upbeat funk jam, directed by Jameson Mangan. When Castro arrives and begins his spectacular guitar solo, the psychedelic visuals are put to exceptionally perfect effect.
Bootsy discussed how he and his three main collaborators produced “Slide Eazy” in an email to Rolling Stone. It all began with a desire to return to his James Brown roots with a modern twist, and Castro was helpful in giving the song the edge. He reached out to Hall, who not only wanted to write the lyrics but also play on the track, as he was looking for an R&B-style singer and lyrics. Johns, Bootsy’s go-to horn arranger, capped it all off, while the bassist also mentioned a friend, J-Skillz, who goes by the stage name DJ on Tha 1 and plays clavinet on the song.
Along with the release of the “Slide Eazy” video, Bootsy revealed that he would be auctioning off some NFT crypto art on the Decentraland virtual game platform. The sale will begin at 6 p.m. ET on April 9th.
Last October, Bootsy released The Power of One. Snoop Dogg, Branford Marsalis, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Larry Graham, Christian McBride, and Dr. Cornel West are among the many collaborators on the album.
