Damon Albarn has shared a new song titled “The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows,” which is the title song from his forthcoming solo album, which will be released on November 12th through Transgressive Records.
The expansive piece “The Nearer the Fountain…” is loaded with gorgeous orchestral elements and the steady strum of an acoustic guitar, however there are enough of subtly odd synths and other textural sounds to give the track an unpleasant edge.
The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flow is Albarn’s second solo album, after 2014’s Everyday Robots. It draws its title from a John Clare poem, “Love and Memory.” Albarn turned the project into a full-length album during lockdown last year, originally intending it to be an orchestral composition inspired by Icelandic landscapes.
Albarn is planning a limited edition colour vinyl version of The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows, as well as CD and cassette versions, in addition to a digital release. A deluxe edition containing additional photography, original scanned lyrics, original artwork, a copy of the album produced on white vinyl, and a bonus seven-inch with an exclusive song from the recording sessions will also be available.
