Danny Elfman & Xiu Xiu collaborated on a Delightfully Industrial Remix of ‘Serious Ground’

Danny Elfman has invited the experimental rock band Xiu Xiu to remix his track “Serious Ground” in an overloaded, industrial style.

With heavily edited vocals from the original recording and a complete overhaul of the track’s instrumentation, Xiu Xiu’s remix reshapes “Serious Ground.”

Elfman’s latest album, June’s Big Mess, is his first solo album in 37 years, and it includes “Serious Ground.” Following the Xiu Xiu remix, Death Grips drummer and producer Zach Hill’s take on “Kick Me,” Squarepusher’s skittering “We Belong” remix, and Trent Reznor’s new version of “True,” there are three more reimaginings of tracks from the album.

Elfman’s collaborative efforts take many forms, and the scattered remix releases are just one of them. On Halloween weekend, the composer best renowned for his work in cinema and television will conduct a series of live-to-film concert experiences in Los Angeles, bringing The Nightmare Before Christmas to life. He’s enlisted Billie Eilish, Weird Al Yankovic, Ken Page, and others for the live shows.
