Brett Morgen will direct a new film showcasing never-before-seen David Bowie footage.
The project took four years to complete and included watching thousands of hours of Bowie videos, the majority of which had never been seen before.
In addition to directing, Morgen will be responsible for editing, writing, and producing.
Bowie’s longtime producer, Tony Visconti has volunteered to collaborate on the project, as have members of the sound teams behind the Academy award biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Morgen is best known for his work on the Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck documentary, which traced the Nirvana frontman’s life from childhood to death in 1994 using a combination of animation, including some of Cobain’s own artwork, and sound collages.
With little information available so far, including the project’s title, Variety reports that speculations are spreading that the film will launch at the Sundance Film Festival in late January, coinciding with the sixth anniversary of Bowie’s death.
In other news, we’re still anticipating David Bowie’s long-lost album ‘Toy,’ which will have re-recorded versions of some of his early work, to be delivered on January 7.
