Ed Sheeran revealed on Wednesday (May 25) that he’s working on a new deluxe edition of his 2021 record =.
The singer starred with Himesh Patel and Lily James in the 2018 musical film Yesterday, but his two original songs from the film — “One Life” and “Penguins” — were never officially unveiled until now. However, there’s no information on what the nine new tracks and two previously unreleased tracks will be.
= (pronounced “Equals”), Sheeran’s fourth successive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, was released in October and included the hits “Bad Habits,” “Shivers,” “Overpass Graffiti,” and “The Joker and the Queen,” as well as a remix starring Taylor Swift. He has already dropped a Christmas edition of the record, which includes “Merry Christmas,” his charity holiday collaboration with Elton John, which debuted at No. 1 in the United Kingdom in December.
At the 2022 Billboard Music Awards, Sheeran played a stripped-down version of his current single “2step,” which he recorded live from Belfast, Northern Ireland, while on the European leg of his current Mathematics Tour. He and his wife Cherry Seaborn delivered their second daughter, a baby girl whose name they have yet to divulge publicly, a few days later.
The musician won a copyright action launched against him in the United Kingdom in April for his 2017 No. 1 hit “Shape of You.” As a result of the case, he’s resolved to videotape all of his future songwriting sessions as proof of his unique ideas.
