For a new rendition of “Chosen Family” from Rina Sawayama’s self-titled 2020 debut album, she has enlisted the support of a very special guest. On Monday (April 12), the “STFU!” singer announced that Sir Elton John will feature on the forthcoming revisit, which will be unveiled on Wednesday (April 14). On Wednesday, the single will debut at 12 p.m. ET on Zane Lowe’s Beats1 show, backed by the video’s premiere at 1 p.m. ET on YouTube.
Rina, Danny, and Jonny Latimer wrote the original power ballad as an emotional ode to Rina’s LGBTQ+ family, emphasizing the idea of a “chosen family” for those who have been “ostracized by their family, friends, or community after coming out.”
In December, Sawayama unveiled a deluxe edition of the album, as well as a list of forthcoming North American tour dates.
