In their new song “Tears in the Club,” FKA Twigs and the Weeknd give in to their “emotions overload.” The song comes after FKA Twigs’ track “Measure of a Man,” which features Central Cee and is featured on the soundtrack for the forthcoming film The King’s Man, which will be released on December 22.
“Tears in the Club” lives true to its name, combining a booming dance floor beat and ambient synths with heartache and angst-filled vocals from Twigs and the Weeknd: “Tears in the club,” says one line of the hook, “because your love got fucked me up.” Amber Grace Johnson has directed a moody, sci-fi-tinged music video for the song, which includes a couple of major dance sequences.
FKA Twigs revealed to the Grammy Museum’s Programs at Home last year that she finished an album while quarantined during the pandemic. Magdalene, her most recent album, was released in 2019.
The Weeknd released the video for Starboy’s “Die for You” in November, collaborated with Post Malone on “One Right Now,” and worked with Rosalía on “La Fama.” The musician is also working hard on his new HBO series The Idol, which will feature Troye Sivan, Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio, and Anne Heche.
