Mastodon have shared a new song titled “Forged by Neron” from the forthcoming Dark Nights: Death Metal soundtrack, which will be released on June 18th through DC Comics and Loma Vista Recordings.
The soundtrack is intended to be a companion piece to the series, which was produced by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo and ended in January. The soundtrack’s executive producer was composer Tyler Bates, who asked the contributing artists to write music influenced by Dark Nights: Death Metal, which is set in a twisted world where the Justice League must battle the Dark Multiverse and Batman’s evil counterpart, the Batman Who Laughs.
The soundtrack opens with Mastodon’s latest song “Forged by Neron,” whose title alludes to the demon lord of Hell who appears in Dark Nights: Death Metal.
Chelsea Wolfe, Rise Against, Denzel Curry, Manchester Orchestra,Idles, and Soccer Mommy will all contribute to the Dark Nights: Death Metal soundtrack, in addition to Mastodon. There will also be other collaborations, including one with Health, Tyler Bates, and Chino Moreno of the Deftones, as well as another with Bates, Greg Puciato of the Dillinger Escape Plan, and drummer Gil Sharone.
Preorders for the Dark Nights: Death Metal soundtrack are now available. Although it will first be available digitally, a CD edition and double-LP vinyl collection with exclusive Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman variant covers will be available on July 16th.
