Ice Cube has stated that he will not be participating in Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’s VERZUZ rap battle series.
The iconic rapper and actor made the remark via The Breakfast Club morning radio show earlier this week, after Warner Bros. studios ‘refused’ to produce any more sequels to his Friday film franchise.
The rapper also informed the hosts that if he ever participated in VERZUZ, it would have to be a “lovefest,” and that if he did, he would choose an artist like Chuck D and honour their legacy by performing his favourite tracks from the Public Enemy frontman’s catalog.
The VERZUZ series, which debuted in March 2020 and features Alicia Keys, Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Beenie Man, Snoop Dogg, and Redman in music battles, is a clash concept created by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.
