The second single from Diana Ross’ upcoming return to pop, “If the World Just Danced,” was released on Friday, marking the next stage in her comeback.
Ross’ return began in June when the single “Thank You” was released.
“If the World Just Danced,” like that song, seeks for the melodic and spiritual elevation of Ross classics. It’s unapologetically focused for the dance floor as well, but with a more modern edge. Unlike “Thank You,” which evoked recollections of Ross’ work with Chic in the 1970s, “If the World Just Danced” is rooted in modern club beats.
Like its predecessor, “If the World Just Danced” features a large number of contributors: Aliandro Prawl, Andre Pinckney, Scott M. Carter, Amy Wadge (who co-wrote “Thinking Out Loud” with Ed Sheeran), Vanessa Wood, and Jaquetta Singleton are among the seven writers who contributed to the track.
Ross’ 13-track “Thank You album,” which was scheduled to drop this month, has been pushed back to November 5th. Ross recorded her vocals in her personal studio, away from the producers, as part of the album’s pre-lockdown work. According to current plans, Ross will return to the stage in June for a series of European gigs.
