St. Vincent has shared a new song titled “Down” from her forthcoming album Daddy’s Home, which will be released on May 14th through Loma Vista Recordings.
St. Vincent laces a sharp funk rhythm with layers of synths and guitars while loading the chorus with rich backing harmonies in “Down,” another fusion of Seventies pastiche with contemporary flourishes.
The song is accompanied by a music video, which was co-directed by St. Vincent and Bill Benz and is reminiscent of films from the 1970s. It finds St. Vincent in the midst of an investigation that entails listening in on phone calls, searching through documents, and finally outsmarting a mysterious antagonist who is shoved down a flight of stairs.
Following “The Melting of the Sun” and “Pay Your Way in Pain,” “Down” is Daddy’s Home’s third release. St. Vincent’s latest album, Daddy’s Home, is her first since 2017’s Masseduction, and she co-produced it with Jack Antonoff, who also collaborated on Masseduction.
