As guests on a special preview of Jimmy Fallon’s That’s My Jam, an hour-long music and comedy variety game show premiering on NBC on January 3rd, Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson, two coaches on The Voice this season, enter their own combat round.
The two are chosen to compete in a mixtape medley showdown. Fallon spins the wheel of genres and categories from which the singers must choose, and it lands on pop divas, as it should.
Grande opens with a choreographed-from-memory performance of Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again,” while Clarkson followed with Shania Twain’s “Any Man of Mine.” Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, and Cher’s songs make up the rest of their faceoff set.
Clarkson and John Legend are proclaimed the night’s winners, while Grande and Blake Shelton, the opposing team, emerge in second place.
However, as the singing competition’s live rounds continue, it’s still “every man for themselves” on The Voice. Grande is the newest member of the coaching team, with the other three having worked together for the past six seasons.
