Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” is covered by Brandi Carlile

During a performance for SiriusXM’s Small Stage Series, Brandi Carlile sang a cover of Joni Mitchell’s track “Woodstock.” Mitchell’s 1970 album “Ladies Of The Canyon” contains the song.

Carlile is a well-known Mitchell fan who has covered the singer on several occasions. Carlile confirmed last month that she will cover Blue in its entirety at Carnegie Hall on November 6th, marking her second time doing so. She debuted the record in Los Angeles in October 2019, shortly after meeting the singer-songwriter at a 75th birthday tribute concert. Carlile recently wrote the liner notes for the 50th-anniversary reissue of Blue, and the two artists have built a close connection since then.

In These Silent Days, Carlile’s latest album will be released on October 1st through Low Country Sound/Elektra Records. She teased the album with the single “Right on Time,” which recalls some of Carlile’s Mitchell influences.

Carlile recorded In These Silent Days at RCA Studio A in Nashville with producers Dave Cobb and Shooter Jennings. While Carlile was quarantined at home with her core collaborators and bandmates, Tim and Phil Hanseroth, the tracks were imagined and composed in 2020.
