Justin Bieber ditched his dreadlocks, which sparked a backlash five years ago when he debuted the hairstyle, and presented his new appearance on Sunday (May 23).
“Happy Sunday,” he captioned an Instagram photo of himself dining with wife Hailey, sporting his new buzz cut. “SHAAAAAAAVED BRUH,” Ryan Tedder wrote underneath, while other fans praised the return of “BUZZTIN.” The 27-year-old pop sensation recently updated his profile photo to show off his new trimmed haircut.
Bieber donned dreadlocks for the first time in 2016 after releasing his fourth album, Purpose, which triggered the cultural appropriation issue.
He reintroduced the dreads toward the end of April, enraging some fans who asked that he learn more about Black culture after he had earlier stated how much he had been “inspired by” and “benefitted off Black culture,” citing his manner of singing, dancing, performing, and dressing.
