Kanye West has been replaced as the Sunday night headliner at this year’s Coachella event by Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd.
The two acts will appear on the event’s main stage on both weekends, on the 17th and 24th of April, in a unique headline performance. Swedish House Mafia will be the festival’s first main act, having previously been mentioned on the bill as special guests — The Weeknd headlined the event in 2018.
The two acts have replaced Kanye West, who had been due to play under the mononym Ye after he canceled his headline appearance with just two weeks to go until the festival kicked off. His representatives have not given a reason for the cancellation of the appearance.
The rapper had previously promised to cancel his act unless fellow headliner Billie Eilish did not apologize to Travis Scott for statements she made last year that he mistook for a reference to the Astroworld tragedy. When Eilish interrupted a show to help a fan not long after the incident at Astroworld, West thought she had disrespected Scott. Eilish, on the other hand, stated that she “literally never said a thing about Travis” and that she was “just helping a fan.”
Last year, Swedish House Mafia teamed with The Weeknd on the track ‘Moth To A Flame,’ which was followed by a Swedish House Mafia remix of The Weeknd’s ‘Dawn FM’ cut ‘Sacrifice.’
On April 15th, Swedish House Mafia will unleash their debut album, ‘Paradise Again.’
