Katy Perry and Alesso have released a new track titled “When I’m Gone,” a spacey electro-pop dance music that marks the DJ and pop star’s first collaboration.
“When I’m Gone” is Perry’s second track of the year, after “Electric,” which was released as part of the Pokémon 25 soundtrack in May. The song follows Alesso’s collaboration with Marshmello, “Chasing Stars,” featuring James Bay.
On Wednesday, Perry and Alesso talked to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe about the latest single, with Perry telling Lowe that Alesso approached her roughly a year and a half ago with the track. Given the preparation for her Las Vegas residency shows, she told Lowe she wasn’t sure she was ready to collaborate.
On Jan. 10, the two will debut a music video for the song during halftime of the 2022 NCAA national championship football game on ESPN.
Perry will begin her Vegas residency on Wednesday evening, and it will last through March 19, 2022. On Tuesday evening, she unveiled the setlist for her residency’s debut night.
