The photographer “Mike Mora” who married Kelis in 2014, died of stomach cancer, according to a spokesperson for the singer. Mike Mora was 37 years old when he died.
Kelis and Mike Mora welcomed their son Shepherd in November 2015, after getting married in 2014. Kelis revealed the birth of her second child with Mora over five years later, in September 2020. Mora revealed his cancer diagnosis a year after his daughter was born.
Kelis and Mora sold their Los Angeles home in the summer of 2020 and relocated to a farm outside of city, according to a Harper’s Bazaar feature penned by Roxanne Gay. Kelis, who attended the culinary school in Le Cordon Bleu in 2008, remarked, “We were proud agriculturists.”
Kelis’ most recent album, Food, was released in 2014. She made a comeback last year with the track “Midnight Snacks.” The press photo that accompanied the comeback song was shot by Mike Mora.
