The soundtrack for Paul Thomas Anderson’s recent movie, “Licorice Pizza,” has been released, and it includes a new song by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead. Graeme Stewart produced the song, which is also known as “Licorice Pizza,” and it is a gentle orchestral work.
David Bowie, Nina Simone, Sonny & Cher, Paul McCartney and Wings, Gordon Lightfoot, and others are among the artists featured on the soundtrack. As the film hits theatres, the collection is now available.
This year, Greenwood composed music for a number of films, including the Princess Diana biography Spencer and Jane Campion’s long-awaited new feature The Power of the Dog.
Anderson’s first film after Phantom Thread, Licorice Pizza, is set in 1973 in the San Fernando Valley. Cooper Hoffman, son of the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, plays a budding kid actor, and Alana Haim, daughter of Haim, plays his high school love interest in her first significant acting role. The film stars Sean Penn, Bradley Cooper, Tom Waits, and Benny Safdie.
Greenwood has been creating music for nearly two decades, starting with his solo debut, Bodysong, in 2003. He worked with Anderson on a number of his films, including There Will Be Blood in 2007, The Master in 2012, Inherent Vice in 2014, and Phantom Thread, for which he received an Academy Award nomination.
