Lizzo Delivered a New Single on SNL Entitled “Special”

Lizzo hosted Saturday Night Live and performed as a musical guest (April 16). She played two tracks from her latest album Special: the title track, which she debuted live onstage, and “About Damn Time.” For the first song, Lizzo was presented by her mother, and for the second, she performed a flute solo.

Lizzo appeared in sketches spoofing the Black Eyed Peas, TikTok, the YouTube algorithm, and more during the SNL broadcast. Lizzo played a professional flutist auditioning for a prominent symphony orchestra who can’t stop twerking while playing in one clip entitled “Orchestra.” Lizzo took a man home after a first date in a later sketch, only for her grandfather, the bald dancing man from the Six Flags commercials, to burst into the living room repeatedly.

Nice Life/Atlantic will release Special on July 15th. It comes after her Grammy-winning breakout album Cuz I Love You from the year 2019 and her single “Rumors” (with Cardi B) from last year. Best Pop Solo Performance, Traditional R&B Performance, and Urban Contemporary Album were all given to Lizzo in honor of the album.
