The “retired” rapper and the acclaimed producer have unveiled their latest MadGic partnership, with the duo’s first track “Mars Only Pt. 3” dropping Friday night.
The pair worked on the entire album together throughout the Covid-19 lockdown, as hinted on the introductory track, though the album’s specifics have yet to be revealed.
According to Genius, “Mars Only Pt. 3” is a remix of a beat Madlib used on his alter ego Quasimoto’s 2005 album The Further Adventures of Lord Quas; the track “Rappcats Pt. 3” is definitely the source of “Mars Only’s” “Pt. 3.”
Following the release of his album No Pressure, Logic announced his retirement from rapping in 2020, though he teased his return to music earlier this month with the minute-long track “Tired in Malibu.” According to NME, Logic admitted in a July 2020 interview that working with Madlib might persuade him to come out of retirement.
Madlib’s Sound Ancestors, a collaboration with Four Tet, was released in January.
