Miley Cyrus has been hard at work on her follow-up ninth studio album, according to her new label home, “Columbia Records,” almost a year after the arrival of the rock-heavy album Plastic Hearts.
Cyrus, who was previously signed to RCA Records, moved to Colombia in March, and her forthcoming album will be her first under the Crush Music label and management.
Cyrus has been teasing the new era’s aesthetics, which appear to be heavily influenced by 1970s disco and its heyday at Studio 54.
When the Plastic Hearts’ classic-rock-inspired album was launched last fall, it debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart and No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
Cyrus has already released a song under her new music home, “Without You,” a duet remix with Australian rising pop star The Kid LAROI, despite the fact that the upcoming album will be her first full-length release under Columbia.
While working on the new album, Cyrus continued a busy schedule in 2021, signing an overall deal and collaboration with NBC, working intensively on brand advertising with Gucci, and recording a version of Metallica’s “Nothing Else Matters” with Elton John and others for The Metallica Blacklist tribute album.
