MPURA AND KILLER KAU, AMAPIANO ARTISTS, DIED IN A CAR ACCIDENT

Mpura and Killer Kau, two Amapiano musicians, were killed in a car accident on their way to a concert in Rustenburg, South Africa, on August 7th.

Early reports suggested that another of the scene’s brightest stars, Kabza De Small, had also been killed in the tragedy, but the artist confirmed this on Twitter that the reports were not accurate.

Six people were killed in the head-on crash, according to Times Live, including rising talents Khanya “The Voice” Hadebe, DJ Thando Tot, and TD. Since the news broke, accolades from the Amapiano and global music communities have poured in.

Kau, whose actual name is Sakhile Hlatshwayo, rose to prominence after a video of him performing went viral on Twitter and was found by DJ Euphoric. His debut track, ‘Thol’ Ukuthi Hey,’ was a tremendous hit in South Africa, and his albums ‘Game Changer’ and ‘After School’ were equally well-received. He was working on his third album, ‘Amaneighbour,’ at the time.

Mpura had been featured in a numerous release, with his collaboration with Busta 929, ‘Umsebenzi Wethu,’ in 2020 being a turning point in his career.
