Method Man has returned with fresh tracks and a completely new NFT compilation.
The Grammy-winning hip-hop veteran unveiled his track “New Old School” on Friday, which features an old-school sound and new-school lyrics, as the name suggests. Method Man also released the first Tical Universe NFT (non-fungible token) comic characters on Flow on Thursday. The Genesis NFT Collection will be produced on Flow (in collaboration with TuneGO and Dapper Labs), a “next-generation blockchain designed for consumer applications.”
The first five Tical Universe comic characters are introduced in Method Man’s limited-edition NFTs, which feature artwork by New York artists Alex Smetsky and Aleks Sinyuts. The characters are animated to match the instrumental “New Old School.” TicalNFT.com is where fans and NFT collectors may participate in the Tical Universe NFT drop. The TuneGO Vault on Flow will securely store and protect digital materials for the Tical Universe NFTs, as well as the masters and creative rights for “New Old School.”
While it’s been over a year since Meth’s previous solo song, “Boom ‘PLL Anthem.'” was released in August 2020, Method Man has already released many collaborative tracks in 2021. In October, he released “The Last 2 Minutes,” a collaboration with Iron Mic. Method Man released the one-minute track one month after his September single “Tag Em In” with ChiChi.
Tical, the Wu-Tang Clan member’s debut solo album, was released in 1994. The album opened at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and spent 43 weeks on the chart.
Over the weekend, the New Yorker made a special appearance on Saturday Night Live for a parody track called “Walking in Staten” about his hometown of Staten Island, which he co-wrote with Pete Davidson.
