On the most recent episode of CBS Sunday Morning, Wayne Coyne gave a behind-the-scenes look at the Flaming Lips’ “space bubble concerts.”
After providing an overview of the Flaming Lips’ “prolific and delightfully weird” career, the morning show took viewers backstage and behind the scenes of the concerts, which was held in March 2021 at Oklahoma City’s Criterion venue — the second in a series of the one-of-a-kind shows, following the debut performances in January 2021.
Coyne told CBS Sunday Morning’s Luke Burbank that the concept for a bubble concert came to him when he was stuck in traffic in 2019, prior to the pandemic, and he sketched it out on a piece of paper. During the lockdown, he further developed the concept.
