On their new song “Homo Sapien,” off of Sympathy for Life, out this Friday, October 22nd, Parquet Courts marvel wryly at humanity’s propensity for invention and evolution.
Marisa Gesualdi directed the music video for “Homo Sapien,” which Parquet Courts also shared. The band is shown performing the track in a large venue with unusual light fixtures and a red backdrop. Overall, it’s rather conventional performance footage, though bassist Sean Yeaton dresses up in knickerbockers, a frilly shirt, and a powdered wig to lend some flair to the proceedings.
Wide Awake!, Parquet Courts’ 2018 album, is followed by Sympathy for Life. Rodaidh McDonald, who has worked with musicians such as The xx, David Byrne, and Hot Chip, was heavily involved in the production of the new album, which was heavily influenced by dance music.
