Pavement have announced a new edition of their Spit on a Stranger EP, which was released in 1999. On the same day as Matador’s deluxe edition of Terror Twilight, it will be released as a 12″ vinyl record. To coincide with the announcement, the band has released a new video for “Harness Your Hopes,” which stars Sophie Thatcher of the Yellowjackets, who imitates Stephen Malkmus & co.’s looks from several vintage Pavement videos. Alex Ross Perry of Her Smell fame directed the new video.
The title track, as well as four other previously unheard tracks, including “Harness Your Hopes,” were included on the original Spit on a Stranger EP, which was unveiled on CD. A live rendition of “Harness Your Hopes” from a 1999 event at London’s Brixton Academy will be included on the new reissue. On Spotify, “Harness Your Hopes” is one of Pavement’s most popular tracks, and the track became viral on TikTok in 2020, receiving tens of millions of views.
