This summer, Pharrell Williams’ Something in the Water Festival will return, with the rapper and producer appearing as a part of the lineup with Jon Batiste, Lil Baby, Lil Uzi Vert, Chloe x Halle, Tyler, the Creator, Run the Jewels, Tierra Whack, and the Dave Matthews Band.
The festival has moved to Washington, D.C. after its debut iteration in Virginia Beach, Virginia in 2019. It takes place from the 17th to the 19th of June, which is also known as Juneteenth.
Williams confirmed last year that the festival would not return to his hometown of Virginia Beach, citing “toxic energy” emanating from local officials, including the mayor and city manager. The aftermath stemmed from the March 2021 death of Donovon Lynch, Williams’ cousin, who was shot to death by a Virginia Beach police officer carrying a deactivated body camera amid other questionable conditions.
