Traxamillion, a well-known Bay Area hip-hop producer, has passed away. He was 42 years old at the time.
The San Jose-born producer, whose real name was Sultan Banks, was most known for helping to establish hyphy, a music and movement genre that arose in Oakland, California, in the late 1990s. The term “hyperactive” was coined by rapper Keak da Sneak, and the genre is defined by up-tempo, drum-driven sounds.
Banks died of a rare kind of cancer, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, which he had been battling since 2017.
The news of Banks’ death was first reported on the Oakland blog Thizzler On The Roof on January 3rd. They posted on Twitter, “Rest In Peace Traxamillion.”
‘Traxamillion Presents the Slapp Addict,’ released in 2006, was a landmark album for Banks.
