Questlove is nominated for an Oscar for best original documentary for Summer of Soul

For the category of Documentary Feature in the Oscar Awards, Questlove has been nominated.

The Roots drummer was nominated for an Oscar this year for his efforts on the film ‘Summer Of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised),’ which marked his debut as director.

The film, which came out last year, is based on the renowned 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which showcased African American music and culture while also promoting Black pride and solidarity. It’s also up for Grammys Awards for Best Music Film this year.

‘Summer Of Soul’ was one of many music-themed movies nominated for Documentary Feature, including ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry’ and Todd Haynes’ ‘The Velvet Underground.’ Questlove’s film, on the other hand, was the only one based on music to make the Oscar shortlist.

The Oscar Awards will be held on March 27th, a Sunday.
