Rufus Wainwright has unveiled a studio rendition of Judy Garland’s “Over the Rainbow,” which will be featured in Rufus Does Judy at Capitol Studios, an upcoming virtual concert. Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall, his live tribute to Garland from 2006-2007, will be a virtual revisit of the show.
Renée Zellweger, who won an Oscar for her depiction of Judy Garland in the 2019 movie Judy, can be seen applauding Wainwright’s performance in the video. During the entire virtual performance, which will take place on Thursday, June 10th, at 8:00 p.m. EST, in honour of Garland’s 99th birthday, Zellweger will be the only “micro-audience” member. Wainwright will also sing with Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth, as well as his sister Martha Wainwright, on a number of tracks.
Rufus Does Judy at Capitol Studios tickets are on sale now exclusively through Veeps for $30 in advance and $35 on the day of the show. There are additional ticket packages that include a Q&A with Wainwright. Inside the Red Ruby Slippers – Backstage with Rufus Does Judy at Capitol Studios will be available to all ticket holders as an unique behind-the-scenes film.
