For the first time in 13 years, RZA dons his Bobby Digital persona for his latest song “Pugilism,” the first single from his forthcoming album Bobby Digital: Digital Potions.
The Wu-Tang mastermind’s long history of fusing samples from kung-fu movies into his music continues with “Pugilism,” which, according to previous RZA interviews, dates back to his long-shelved (and allegedly still-in-the-works) album The Cure. The lyrics are similarly influenced by his favorite martial arts films.
In conjunction with “Pugilism,” RZA revealed his new series Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater with RZA on his streaming site 36 Cinema; for the first screening, RZA would provide commentary to the Shaw Brothers’ Heroes of the East on April 24th; visit the 36 Cinema site for ticket details.
RZA’s Bobby Digital alter ego last launched Digi Snacks in 2008; Digital Potions were billed as a follow-up to Bobby Digital album, which was released in 1998. During the Heroes of the East virtual screening, RZA promises to reveal more detail about Digital Potions.
