Saweetie was a vision in royal blue on the BET Awards red carpet on Sunday, wearing a sweeping, barely there Dolce & Gabbana gown. Despite her calm and composed attitude, the “Icy Grl” performer expressed her “surprise” at being nominated for best female hip hop artist at the show.
The hit-making raptress gushed over her fellow nominees and underlined her own space for growth on the red carpet, accompanied by her father, Johnny Harper.
Cardi B, Coi Leray, Doja Cat, Latto, and eventual winner Megan Thee Stallion were among the other nominees for best female hip hop artist. Saweetie’s track “Best Friend,” with fellow contender Doja, reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also made it to the top of the Rhythmic Airplay chart.
Saweetie’s debut album, Pretty Bitch Music, was set to drop alongside Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost and Doja Cat’s Planet Her last week, but the project was postponed thanks to none other than pop diva Cher, and Saweetie returned to the studio.
