Teklife has dropped ‘888 (Infinity),’ the latest album by Chicago footwork musician Sirr TMO.
The producer’s debut album for the influential label, though he has been strongly linked with the gang for years, is a prolific face in the city’s scene.
The album has underlying themes that are inspired, at least in part, by excursions outside the Illinois line, scenes from his hometown, Buddhist philosophy, and Sufi musical traditions. Sirr TMO’s love of cinematic atmospheres, regular usage of folk and jazz samples, and interest in projects that mix science and art are all obvious throughout the album.
Teklife started as an imprint in 2016 with the late-DJ Rashad’s posthumous record, ‘Afterlife,’ after years of playing a prominent role in the footwork scene but concentrating releases on Kode 9’s Hyperdub label. In 2019, it dropped ‘Da Life,’ the first new music by DJ Spinn in four years.
