Ella Williams, a.k.a. Squirrel Flower, of Massachusetts, will release a new album named Planet (i) this summer. On June 25th, Polyvinyl Records will release the follow-up to her 2020 debut album, “I Was Born Swimming,” which won her a spot as a Rolling Stone Artist You Need to Know.
The album’s first single is “Hurt a Fly,” a grungy slow-burner in which Squirrel Flower sings about miscommunications over guitars that steadily increase in intensity and distortion.
Planet (i) was recorded in Bristol, England, by Squirrel Flower, with producer Ali Chant and musicians including Portishead’s Adrian Utley. Williams listed some of the themes she was contemplating for her next album in her Artist You Need to Know interview last year.
